At the awards, which are organised every two years by the Australian Steel Institute (ASI), the judges were impressed how “the complexity of the structural steel framed awning was addressed through the design, detailing, fabrication and installation phases”.
The awning, whose project engineers were Taylor Thomson Whitting and architects Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp, was recognised at the awards held on Friday, 15 July.
“The building redevelopment transformed an Art Deco styled 33-storey commercial tower building with retail spaces, a contemporary façade and a new commercial lobby incorporating the metal awning inspired by the art of origami,” noted the Australian Steel Institute.
