The GPT Group today announced that the GPT Wholesale Office Fund (GWOF) has become a signatory to the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment.
The declaration, made at this week’s Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, requires signatories to ensure that all new buildings are zero carbon by 2030, and existing buildings carbon neutral by 2050.
GPT Chief Executive Bob Johnston said the declaration reinforces GPT’s target for its property portfolio to be zero carbon by 2030.
“The Australian property sector has been a world leader in reducing carbon emissions, and GPT is proud to be a part of this coordinated industry-wide and global effort for all new buildings to be zero carbon by 2030.”
“GPT believes reducing emissions through the more efficient use of energy also makes good business sense as it will reduce the cost of operating our buildings,” said Mr Johnston.
Since 2005, GPT has reduced the carbon emission intensity of its operations by 61 per cent.
