In celebration of National Reconciliation Week, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags will be raised at Australia Square in Sydney for the first time today.
The GPT Group will be celebrating National Reconciliation Week with the flag raising ceremony, as well as the unveiling of an artwork it has commissioned by celebrated Indigenous artist Jasmin Sarin.
The flag raising ceremony at Australian Square will be attended by Gadigal Elder, Uncle Ray Davison, to speak at the event and perform a ‘Welcome to Country’. Australia Square is co-owned by The GPT Group and DEXUS Property Group.
As part of its commitment to reconciliation, GPT is preparing to launch its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) this August. The RAP is a formal commitment which outlines the practical actions the Group will take to create stronger relationships and enhanced trust with Australia’s Traditional Custodians.
Phil Taylor, GPT’s Head of People and Performance said GPT was proud to be continuing its path towards reconciliation and launching its first RAP.
“It is a positive step for GPT to be actively celebrating National Reconciliation Week and joining other businesses in the nation’s collective reconciliation effort,” Mr Taylor said.
“GPT has a commitment to making a positive contribution to the communities where it operates. The Group’s commitment to reconciliation and celebrating indigenous culture is a big part of that.”
